Palazzo Vecchio sits atop one of Tuscany’s rolling hills, surrounded by vineyards that roll down its slopes. The winery is just north of the ancient walled city of Montepulciano, which lends its name to the wines made there – Vino Nobile di Montepulciano.
While the wines of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano are not as well-known as its sister city Montalcino’s Brunello or the famous Tuscan wine Chianti, they are not to be ignored. The common denominator among the three wines is the Sangiovese grape. Brunello, the most elegant of the three, is 100% Sangiovese. Chianti is allowed other grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, where Sangiovese is known as Prugnolo Gentile, can include Canaiolo and Mammolo.
